On Wednesday, 20 November 2025, the first EIT Food event in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences of the University of Sarajevo. The event was organized by the Verlab Institute in cooperation with DMBIUBIH, with support from EIT Food and the City of Sarajevo.

The event gathered more than 70 participants, including young innovators, researchers, representatives of the food sector, international partners, and the academic community. The program was divided into two segments:

Challenge Labs competition, where young teams developed innovative solutions for reducing food waste

Awareness Day symposium, dedicated to promoting sustainable practices and European initiatives in food systems

During the Challenge Labs final, nine solutions were presented, and the expert jury selected the top three teams:

1st place – PeelSorb (Richmond Park Schools Tuzla)
2nd place – ReVive (Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, UNSA)
3rd place – FoodLoop (Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, UNSA)

The prize sponsors for the winning teams were Solana Tuzla, Mlin Đurić, Smajić Oils, and Mlin Ustikolina, who supported young innovators and the development of sustainable ideas.

The event was also attended by representatives of EIT Food, further positioning Sarajevo as an important hub for advancing food innovation initiatives in Southeast Europe.

By organizing this event, new opportunities for partnerships, projects, and collaboration have been opened for youth, industry, and academia, while Sarajevo has once again been highlighted as a city dedicated to sustainability, innovation, and European values.
